“In The Clouds” A/W 18-19
There is a high importance for designers to continually innovate traditional techniques with new technologies. Especially in a global climate where craftsmanship is susceptible, artificial intelligence is at our doorstep, and humanity is seeking new identities in an increasingly automated world.
For my Autumn/ Winter 2018 collection, entitled “In The Clouds”, I was inspired by the realistic forms and optical illusions within the trompe-l’oeil art style which was popularised during the Baroque movement.
From heavily rhinestoned straight cut trousers built for sleepwear-like comfort, to a luxurious velvet coat graduating from a sunset pink to a serenity blue hue, the ten piece capsule collection is the my response to emerging generational identities and non-binary expressions.
To present my outcome, I’ve decided to do something a little different. I’m a firm believer in taking risks and trying something new. I also firmly believe we need to find new ways of presenting fashion in a less commercial and independent manner.
So I created my second fashion zine. In this zine you’ll find my amazing model and dear friend Luke, transitioning between forms of dress and undress as I narrate in pseudo-subtitles a personal narrative about facing resistance in my life, resulting in a photo essay that’s more attuned to a short movie.
I hope you enjoy the show.
