“I Just Want To Go To Japan...” S/S 19-20
is a collection about exactly that. This is my love letter to Japan, a country I’ve fallen in love with like so many others but haven’t had the chance to visit yet. So everything is inspired by what I think Japan independent as as an outsider, but not what it actually is i.r.l. (because like hell do I know…). I think this was a really interesting idea to play with in a climate when cultural appropriation was such a big topic in fashion, because the idea itself was never meant to be authentic to the traditional culture it draws reference from, but create a personal narrative inspired by the pop references I’ve gained throughout the years from the outside.
I was inspired by@bonpon51’s colour choices, the flatness from Rei Kawakubo’s A/W 2012 collection and her deconstructivism from the 90’s, the tastefulness and conceptual aspect of Shibari, the idea of the Liger Zero getting tactically fitted with a different exosuit for specific battles, and Heero Yuy from Gundam suiting up in those sexy, sexy jumpsuits he used to pilot the Wing. Can you relate?
